Engy Hashem

Engy Hashem (b. 1987) is an Egyptian visual artist, designer and gallery executive. Hashem holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the School of the Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University. She defines her design work as a visual examination of the city’s disparate inputs in an attempt to gently interrogate and untangle concepts of language, locality, and the roles they play in shaping one's identity using various artistic techniques including illustration, typography and calligraphy. Hashem’s work has been showcased locally and internationally in Cairo, Doha, Riyadh and London. Her poster ‘Derailed’ was selected in the first round of 100 Best Arabic Posters, 2016. She worked as an art director and designer on ‘Khatt: Egypt’s Calligraphic Landscape’, a book by Noha Zayed and Basma Hamdy (2018).
